Delivering an integrated, commissioned and working terminal to the operations team is an important value driver within APM Terminals. Failure to deliver the asset(s) within scope, on time and budget hurts APM Terminals long term. Equally, being able to improve on the original plans for a project secures incremental value for APMT Terminals.

This position's objective is to manage, direct and control the expansion of the existing automated transport system.

Overall responsibilities are the following

  • Drive and lead the equipment and design, fabrication, delivery, commissioning, and integration – in line with the project’s scope, timeline, quality, budget, and objectives.
  • Delivery of a 100% safe and CE-certified system.
  • Reducing risks, creating opportunities and strive for the solution with highest operational performance under all circumstances.
  • Smooth integration of expansion scope into the running terminal.
  • Implementing detailed functionalities to have a good maintainable- and operational system.
  • Managing the implementation of WS-AHTS and optimize the support for the overall expansion project and the terminal operation.

Elaboration of overall responsibilities

General

  • Act as primary APMT point of contact on-site towards contractors and suppliers.
  • Manage the E&I deliveries, supervise on-site works and control progress in a transparent manner (fabrication and delivery are the contractors’ and suppliers’ responsibilities).
  • Together with Equipment Package Manager, influence decision making processes on the E&I aspects of the project and cross-functionally advise the Interface, Civil and IT Managers.
  • Maintain awareness of E&I requirements, risks, and changes. Report progress and liaise with terminal and project teams.
  • Ensure that commissioning, safety, and compliance are addressed early in the project.
  • Support the Contracts Manager with the administration of the E&I contracts.

Safety

  • Actively promote safety and assume a visible leadership role on the construction site.
  • Support that all staff maintain full awareness of safety as a priority.
  • Monitor compliance by all contractors and suppliers to APM Terminals’ safety standards and policies in co-operation with the on-site HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environmental) manager.

Construction controls & governance

  • Track E&I progress against the approved baseline and, where appropriate, ensure issues are pro-actively addressed, resolved and/or escalated and reported.
  • Analyze schedules, assess delays and report on (possible) mitigative or corrective measures.
  • Assess changes and their impacts and manage them in line with company procedures.
  • Monitor and assess E&I opportunities, risks, and subsequent mitigation strategies, and track such risks through input into the project risk register.
  • Ensure contractors and suppliers fulfil their roles under the contracts, timely escalate issues to Technical Lead when necessary.

Communications

  • Ensure clear communication within project and terminal technical teams.
  • Ensure consistent input into project reporting.
  • Meet regularly with contractors and suppliers to maintain full awareness of issues which may impact safety, scope, progress, interfaces, milestones and/or budget.
  • Build working relations with contractors and suppliers to influence the good outcome of delivering a terminal ready for operations.
  • Build collaborative relationships with associated divisions and external parties.

Elaboration of critical interfaces

  • Work closely with Automation, IT and Civil Managers ensuring that:
  • dependencies from elements outside own responsibility (e.g., operations, whether conditions, traffic situations, commercial, legal, Civil, IT, etc) affecting asset delivery are well understood, and
  • the Automation, IT and Civil Managers understand the impacts of changes towards asset delivery
