Program Manager
Reports To VP PMO or Manager within PMO
Responsibility Program Management in Stoneridge Electronics.
Main Purpose:
PM is accountable for the achievement of project targets and objectives (quality, profitability, timing and risks) validated by the management
  • Leads project in accordance with SPLP rules and principles
  • Manages the core team
  • Ensures customer satisfaction
  • Defines quality, profitability & cost targets and leads all project team members to achieve these targets with a permanent focus on cash
  • Respects timing and controls risks
Main Elements
Activity 1 :Project Plan
Builds project plan.
Sets project planning, anticipates deviation risks and takes corrective actions.
Ensures management of the project during development until it is closed.
Ensures management of the project along production period and manages the productivity with effect on product/process.
Reviews with corporate legal function acceptability and consistency of all contractual and warranty obligations with the customer, suppliers and third parties.
Activity 2 : Team Management
Develops teamwork on a collaborative mode and works in synergy with all project team members to achieve project objectives.
Secures availability of adequate resources with the Core Team Members
Contributes to appraisal process of core team members.
Ensures coordination and good information flow between project team and plant(s).
Activity 3 : Financials
Establishes budget and manages development, tooling and other expenses of project within budget objectives and optimizing cash.
Issues regular reporting & re-forecasting of project profitability, project development costs, investments and cash (typically monthly).
Proposes cost savings.
Activity 4 : Product/Process
Masters product and process design to achieve target costs and to meet profitability and cash-in/cash-out targets.
Makes sure that technical/process choices are made in accordance with quality targets.
Makes sure that quality targets will be reached, checking that all quality assessments (FMEA, …) are done properly.
Activity 5 : Customer
Interfaces with the customer on all project issues, ensures good communication and information flow between the customer project team (including production sites) and the SRE project team (including production sites).
Activity 6 : Steering
. Organizes with the project team regular project meetings (weekly) and MPRs (monthly).
. Prepares and presents project to gate reviews (and in any other program/project review as necessary).
. Identifies project risks and implements action plans.
. Records project history file and shares experience within SRE; Implements “lessons learned process” on the project.
Relevant KPI
Gate-reviews on time and with quality, milestone accuracy, program budget within PAR and profitability (Gross Margin, Operating Income), flawless launch, quality according to plan
According to Delegation of Authority and the program manager have the authority to approve within the agreed scope of the program at Gate 4 plus approved Change Requests.
Main interfaces will be members of your team, customers, production, design, procurement, senior management and other support functions.
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in project management or engineering with strong academic results, or equivalent background
Experience and requirements
  • Minimum 5 years work experience, knowhow and skills from working as a Program Manager and with customer relationships.
  • Solid understanding of PM discipline and processes.
  • Strong drive and focus on results.
  • Organized, structured way of working, ability to take a holistic view still with attention to details.
  • Proven people management and leadership skills, ability to lead and coach and get things done in cross-functional environments.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to instil a culture of accountability.
  • Prepare relevant data to be able to make difficult decisions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage tight deadlines, work under pressure.
  • Under all circumstances and in front of customers always represent SRI with professionalism
  • Ability to step into a difficult situation, perform root cause analysis and plan for way forward quickly.
  • Strong in MS Project, MS Excel, and data management.
  • Knowledge of automotive core tools such as PPAP, APQP, DFMEA's.
Description of characteristics
Program coordinating function focused on planning, budgeting and controlling the progress of the core members of the program. Performs job analyses and contributes to project definition secures exaction acc to plan. Monitors quality and quantity and takes care of the main program scheduling and alignment. Regularly switches between detailed questions from program members to overall planning, reporting/escalating to senior management and customers all with the program targets in mind. Accuracy is required in the administrative, control of process adherence and follow up. There is regularly a time compulsion around the delivery of program milestones.
Control capacity
Is bound by ad hoc questions and project deadlines when determining the own schedule. Is free to divide the time within this and to set priorities. In the work approach, it is bound to the co-designed project definition and task-setting budgets and project frameworks, within which the analysis and design activities must be carried out. The supervision is indirect in the form of consultations and reports afterwards. The choices to be made concern the coordination of the processes and can be solved independently on the basis of extensive experience with project management and thorough technical insight. Has internal contact with managers (progress reporting), program team members (monitoring and solving bottlenecks) and colleagues from other departments (Engineering, Procurement, Sales, AME, Launch, Quality and Finance) (organization-wide coordination). These contacts are important for a smooth and timely course of the product development programs.
Risk of damage
Occasionally has external contact with suppliers about possible components, product properties and the purchase of tests in the test process. These contacts are important for monitoring quality and achieving an optimal design. Errors and/or negligence in coordinating, planning, budgeting and controlling the progress of the technical design process in projects and assembling the project team can lead to extra work, loss of time, major irritations and financial damage. Errors and/or negligence, especially in project definition and coordination, can lead to wrong advice, dissatisfied customers, wrong or overpriced designs, a lot of extra work, loss of time, reputational damage and serious financial consequences. The chance of timely detection and repair of errors is reasonable and is mainly based on self-control and counterplay by others. Discretion is required with regard to confidential information regarding the product development projects (specifications, prices, etc.).
Physical Aspects
Works predominantly under office conditions. Works on a screen for a large part of the day.
