Engineering Manager Temporary Steel Design

Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam is looking for an Engineering Manager for their Temporary Steel Design department. In this role you act as the department head for Temporary Steel Design projects. All activities for this department are under your responsibility, where you can expect a mix of strategic and operational decisions for both internal and external issues. You will work in close cooperation with our other engineering departments like the Methods, Equipment Design and Ship Design department.

For all project related matters, you will coordinate tasks like proposals, projects, engineering activities, capacity, planning, budgets, development etc. where you will act as the manager but also will have a practical and hands-on approach to coordinate the projects from an in-depth technical view and knowhow.

For the department you will coordinate all activities related to development of the department, employees, software-and engineering tools, knowledge, hiring new employees etc. Furthermore, you will be point of contact for HR related matters within the department related to training, development, holidays, sickness and more.

As Engineering Manager Temporary Steel Design you will be part of the MT and you will be involved in the company’s strategic and long-term decisions, which you can translate to a short and long term department plan which will help Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam with their long-term goals.

The ideal candidate would have a more then solid background in structural engineering in marine operations and would like to manage a department with a focus on technical engineering challenges and operational efficiency. You have a hands-on approach and can jump in to solve engineering challenges, but also can keep the overview and keep the long-term development of the company, department and its employees in mind.

Responsibilities Engineering Manager Temporary Steel Design

• Develop and implement company strategy into a department development plan;
• Responsible for all proposal, engineering, project management activities within the department;
• Coordination of capacity, planning, budgets, contracts, and scopes of work
• Development of knowledge, employees and (software) tools;
• Point of contact for HR matters like training, development, holidays etc.

Your background

• A Msc. Degree in Maritime Engineering, Naval architecture or comparable
• About 15 years of experience in structural engineering, preferably in the Offshore and/or offshore wind industry marine operations/T&I
• About 5 years’ experience in Sr. Project Management and/or Engineering Management
• A pragmatic and hands-on mindset, to be able to take both short-and long term decisions
• Strong communication skills, both in Dutch and English
