About the Role
As a Staff Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our unmanned systems platform. You’ll lead by example—driving architecture, solving hard problems, and mentoring engineers across teams. This role is about elevating engineering excellence across the organization, fostering strong technical standards, and enabling scalable growth through sound engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Define and evolve scalable, secure, and maintainable software architecture for autonomous systems.
- Drive technical alignment across teams, ensuring consistency in design patterns, frameworks, and integrations.
- Lead design discussions and architectural reviews across projects.
Engineering Enablement
- Uplift engineering maturity through mentorship, pair programming, and hands-on support.
- Improve technical capabilities across teams through code reviews, reusable tooling, and architecture playbooks.
- Champion a culture of continuous learning and engineering excellence.
Execution & Delivery
- Build and validate Proof of Concepts (PoCs) to de-risk new technologies and approaches.
- Tackle complex engineering challenges and provide guidance for critical system components.
- Ensure high standards in testing, observability, performance, and automation.
Strategic Influence
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and leadership to define long-term technical vision.
- Influence technology choices and system evolution in line with company goals and industry trends.
- Drive cross-team initiatives that improve reliability, scalability, and developer productivity.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, including significant exposure to architecture and systems design.
- Proven ability to scale systems and teams through thoughtful abstraction, automation, and process.
- Strong mentorship skills with a track record of lifting others up technically.
- Strong communicator - capable of aligning diverse stakeholders behind a technical vision.
Bonus Points
- Experience in a Staff+ role (e.g., Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Tech Lead) with impact across multiple teams or domains.
- Affinity with unmanned systems or Defense.
- A passion for deepening your craft through great engineering literature, such as:
