You are an experienced manager with business development skills. FFUND is a high impact Life Sciences consultancy company that specializes in securing financing and deals for European start-ups and scale-ups. With our driven team and in-depth knowledge, we strive to create long-lasting customer relations to effectively secure funding for their innovative technologies.
Our growing company is seeking a business unit head for the Venture Finance Services (VFS), who is dedicated to expanding the impact of FFUND in Europe by growing the Venture Finance business unit. As business unit head VFS, you are enthusiastic to lead the operations, client relations and business development of the unit, and are driven to develop and implement future strategies for the growth of the business.
At the start, you will adopt a core team of ±8 people, including multiple consultants, senior consultants and business experts (entrepreneurs) that are ready to work with you. The services that your team delivers, include financial controlling & project/contract management, and full Investor fundraising trajectories (incl. investor matchmaking). Your clients can also choose to hire parts of the investor fundraising trajectories in the form of expert products: investor readiness packages, market analysis, company valuations, and targeted investor lists.
As business unit manager, you are responsible for the effective and inspirational leadership of the team, the proceses that ensure quality of the services, strategic relations with clients and investors, as well as generating new business by attracting and talking to new potential customers. You will report the reslts and progress of your business unit to the management of the company.
You are passionate about the field of life science innovations and have proven experience in working with start-ups and scale-ups (interaction with C-level and/or shareholders), are business smart and skilled to balance the cost-benefit of your team and business unit.

About the job:
As a professional in leading consulting teams you are involved in a wide range of activities such as:
Strategy
- Lead, track, and report the business results (monthly profit&loss, team capabilities and resources, (financial) results.
- Report and discuss results to the MT,
- Develop models to expand the services in a scalable model for growth.
- Follow trends and development in the field to actively develop your business unit services in line with the opportunities in the field. Actively initiate ideas and discussions in the MT regarding the strategic focus for the business unit.
Leadership
- Develop a cohesive and strong team with clear goals and objectives.
- Direct project teams, providing guidance, oversight, and mentorship to the consultants.
- Guide the experienced entrepreneurs in the team to effectively work with the consultants to provide validated advice and strong products to our clients.
- Ensure that the objectives, quality, timeliness, and resource allocation of the projects are defined, delivered, and reported.
- Ensure that the client experience, communication, and expectation management by the VFS team is spot-on.
Strategic relations and business development
- Bring and build long term relationships with key partners and stakeholders, such as strategic parties in the field, investors, and customers.
- Close strong deals with customers for the VFS team.
- Lead the (online) presence and visibility of the business unit in the field.
- Scout and develop opportunities for strategic partnerships for the business unit.
- In house stakeholder management and business development by actively seeking collaborations for clients with the other business units and vice versa.
To be successful you have:
- More than 8 years’ work experience, of which 5+ in consulting and/or venture building, prefereably in the Biotech and/or Pharma/Life Sciences industry
- You have a MSc. or PhD in business or finance.
- A PhD in the Life Science field and/or MBA is a plus.
- Proven leadership skills, including the ability to lead and motivate teams.
- Excellent understanding of startup/scaleup ecosystems and entrepreneurial challenges.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English.
- Proven business development experience and track-record..
- Bringing a network of investors and key players in the Dutch/European Life Sciences is seen as a plus.
- A hands-on mentality and an entrepreneurial spirit.

As a Business Unit Head at FFUND you will receive:
- A fixed salary between, pension plan, profit sharing on the delivered results of the business unit;
- A 0.8-1FTE position, a standard fulltime position at FFUND is 40 hours;
