About Zebregs&Röell:

We are an internationally renowned Dutch gallery specializing in colonial and cross-cultural fine and decorative arts from the 16th to the 19th century. Title: Gallery Manager

Employment Type: Full-time

Working hours:
Reguarly from Monday till Friday 10.00 am - 6 pm.

The nature of the job requires flexibility in working hours, working overtime and in weekends, especially during art fairs or when travelling abroad.
You are required to study, visit museum exhibition, auctions, and art fairs in your own time.

Dutch legal collective labor agreement applies.

Location: Our gallery, situated in the heart of Amsterdam, offers a unique workplace that combines an academic research atmosphere with a focus on commerce. We provide a space for learning and growth amongst colleagues, surrounded by an inspirational collection of art and antiques in a 'kunstkammer' style.

Team Structure:

  • Join a close-knit team comprising of three gallery assistants and the owner.
  • Collaborate with independent researchers.
  • Engage regularly with our team of restoration experts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a comprehensive overview of internal operations.
  • Manage the registration of acquisitions and sales, including the creation of research, restoration, and conservation plans.
  • Oversee inventory and associated documentation (e.g., CITES, import/export permits, research findings).
  • Handle client inquiries, valuation requests, and museum loans.
  • Liaise with curators and coordinate tasks among gallery assistants and independent researchers.
  • Prepare for and participate in prominent Art Fairs (e.g., TEFAF, PAN, Munich HIGHLIGHTS, The Winter Show).

Candidate Profile:

  • A strong background in art history, preferably in non-European and cross-cultural art.
  • Excellent administrative skills and ability to manage paperwork efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills, with a propensity to speak candidly.
  • Sales experience is advantageous.
  • Personable and approachable, with a knowledge of basic etiquette and discretion.
  • A proactive and meticulous approach to tasks, including precise grammar in documentation.
  • Dark humor is a pro.

Future Prospects:

  • Opportunity to establish a new branch within the company (black portraiture, chinese export porcelain, Japanese lacquer, or anything you feel would be interesting to explore)
  • Develop new exhibitions in the Netherlands or abroad.
  • Explore collaborations with other organizations and museums.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to write in an academic yet engaging style.
  • Research skills, particularly in the context of art objects.
  • Familiarity with Word, Excel, and ideally, InDesign & Photoshop.
  • Digital literacy, including social media and computer use.
  • Possession of a driver's license.
  • Willingness to perform various tasks as needed, ensuring the gallery's operational efficiency. (even the boss cleans the toilet every now and then)
