Troubleshooting: License and Certification Check

This article helps you fix common issues with license and certificate check on Indeed.

New to this check? Read our guide: License and Certification Check on Indeed.

Understanding your application status (when you request a third-party credential check)

If you choose to let Checkr look up your license or certification, you can track your application status in the My Jobs tab.

Here is what those statuses mean:

  • Application pending - credential verification in progress: Checkr is still looking up your license or certification details. This usually takes a few minutes, but it can take up to 3 days.
  • Submitted - applied, credential verified: The check found a matching active record at the source. Your application has been sent to the employer. You can view your results via My Jobs.
  • Pending - incomplete application: The check could not find a matching active record or a technical error stopped the check. Your application has not been sent to the employer yet. You’ll need to upload evidence to finish applying.

Why does the status update in My Jobs say "Unable to verify credential"?

This can happen due to a temporary system interruption, a typo, or the current status listed by the source. A match will also not be found if the official record has extra details on it beyond what you typed in, such as an official note in your files.

If Checkr completed the check, your credential information and verification result are now available via My Jobs.

How to complete your application when pending

If your application is marked as pending, you have two options. We recommend doing both at the same time so you don't miss the job deadline.

Option 1: Upload a file directly to Indeed (fastest)

You can skip the Checkr look-up and upload your own proof. This sends your application to the employer right away.

How to submit:

  1. Go to My Jobs and find your application under the Applied tab.
  2. Follow the prompt to upload a picture or document of your license.
  3. Submit the file to deliver your application.

Option 2: Ask Checkr for a correction

If you think there is a mistake with your verification result, you can ask Checkr to correct it.

How to request a correction:

  1. Go to My Jobs and find your application.
  2. Select View credential information, then tap View my verification result.
  3. Review your details to see what is wrong (like a wrong license number or state).
  4. Select Request a Correction to submit a correction request on Checkr's website.

Checkr usually reviews these requests within 7 days, but it can take longer. We recommend also uploading a file (Option 1) while you wait so the job doesn't close!

What to do if Checkr updates your verification results

You have two choices:

  • If the job is still open and your application is pending: Go to My Jobs and upload the updated verification result as your file proof. Checkr will share any updated result directly with you.
  • If you need Indeed to share the updated result with the employer, contact Indeed support.
Important: This option is only available if Checkr was able to process the credential check. If there was an error processing the credential check, you will not see a verification result link or the ability to request a correction. You can complete your application by uploading a file directly to Indeed.

Troubleshooting

Issue: I can't find my application in My Jobs

Solution: Make sure you are signed in with the same email you used to apply. If you have more than one email, try signing out and signing back in with the other one.

Issue: My name on Indeed is different from the name on my license.

Solution: Because the check looks for an exact match, a name difference might cause a Further Review Required status. If your names do not match exactly what’s on the license, we recommend adding the exact name that appears on your license when applying or using the File Upload option.

Issue: The check is taking too long or seems stuck.

Solution: You should reach out to Indeed customer support. Please see below for how to contact Indeed Support.

Issue: The job says a license is required, but I never saw a license step.

Solution: Not all employers use Indeed to verify licenses. Many prefer to check your paperwork themselves during an interview or onboarding. If you didn't see a prompt, you don't need to do anything.

Issue: My verification results or correction request link doesn't work.

Solution: Sign in to My Jobs and open your application from the Applied tab to find the link there. If it still does not work, contact Indeed Support. Please see below for how to contact Indeed Support.

Issue: I never received a verification result.

Solution: Check the My Jobs tab first to see your current application status. A verification result link will only appear after Checkr completely finishes looking up your details.

If your application status is:

  • Submitted - applied, credential verified
    • Your check finished and your verification result link should be there. If you cannot find it, please contact Indeed Support.
  • In Progress
    • Checkr is still looking up your information. The link will not be available until they are finished.
  • Pending (but there is no verification result link)
    • A technical error likely stopped Checkr from processing the credential check. You can complete your application by using the File Upload option to submit a picture of your license.

If you still have questions, reach out to Indeed Support using the guide at the bottom of this page.

Issue: Can the employer see if a verification result shows “Further Review Required” or if there was an error?

Solution: No. Indeed does not tell the employer if a check returns "Further Review Required" or if there was an error that prevented the check from completing. Employers will only see credential check details in your application if the result is Results Found or if you upload your own file.

Issue: I cannot remember the email address I used for Checkr.

Solution: Reach out to Indeed customer support. Please see below for how to contact Indeed Support.
