I really actually enjoy working here the manager is understanding and a overall genuine good person the only con in this field of work is the pay I feel like it’s kind of hard to reach goals because of inflation
Really good management and not stressful work
Pay because of inflation
The position as a mechanical engineering trainee, in the refinery mechanical department, has given me the chance to learn how engineering makes things possible in the field, in one of the largest companies in the world; and to experience, face and solve different kind of problems related to the day-to-day at the office.
Varied, challenging, achievable and rewarding describe workplace culture and my senior level position. The most enjoyable part of the job was organizing the various stakeholders to attend and vote at a meeting that improved natural resource management sustainability.
Un-cooperation / competetion between departments, Pipeline Integrity Engineer with PDO (Shell company) As ONO61 working on the Technical Integrity- Process Safety Management of gathering-station static equipment [vessels, tanks etc], on-plot piping, and interfield pipelines and flowlines, in PDO North areas and MOLs.
The oil and gas sector pays really well, also the topic is strongly related to macroeconomics and international politics. So you will have high satisfaction from intellectual curiosity. It is also a truly international environment as you will work with colleagues from oil-producing countries whose working culture and pace may differ from the western one. On top, it is a huge traditional organization, so the culture could be hierarchical and political as well (all depends on the team and manager, of course)
I worked in Shell for 15 years as a Contractor in Communications. I worked all over the Technical Division with the opportunity to initially work with Senior Managers and to produce a monthly newsletter for the main offices in Rijswijk and Houston. As a contractor I could move around and I worked for many parts of the Technical Division. I worked in HR and published the annual directory of Learning Courses; I worked in Knowledge Management (KM) several times, consolidating the methodology, working on projects in Qatar and Kazakhstan. I spent two years working with an inspired manager in part of the Learning organization that was responsible for advanced training for Senior Project Managers. My advice to anybody joining Shell is to think of developing your knowledge of the company and move on to work in several areas over the years. Do not get tied to one special type of work, be adventurous, as the company offers amazing opportunities to those knowledgeable and adventurous enough to profit from them.
