AAP is looking for a Manager Facility Services (International/EU) | 32-40 hours per week
Our dream is to put an end to the suffering of exotic animals in Europe. To achieve this, AAP is active in several EU member states and is developing into an international organization. These activities include running two rescue centers. The increased size and complexity of maintaining and developing the sites and changes in the management structure, led to the decision to open this vacancy.
Do you feel challenged and energized to realize our dream with us by being responsible for management of facilities within our international animal welfare organization? Then this is the job for you!
What will you do as a Manager Facility Services?
Facility Services is responsible for the management of all buildings, terrains, equipment and related processes, including safety and security. The increased complexity and number of buildings, terrains and equipment, require a different approach. Firstly to improve facility related processes and drawing up, maintaining and executing multi annual maintenance plans, but also managing larger projects as the energy transition and renovation or full replacement of buildings. With these steps we want to strengthen facility services by adding the tactical and strategical scope. For the year plan execution of daily operations you can rely on two competent local teams, both managed and coordinated by two team leaders. The team in the Netherlands (Almere) consists of 1 team leader, 2 executing supervisors, 1 technical employee, 1 gardener and 1 coordinator for the canteen. In Spain (Villena), the team consists of 1 executing team leader, 1 technical employee, 1 gardener / facility employee. Additionally, we are proud and happy to be able to work with (many) volunteers in both locations.
Your tasks:
- You function as a sparring partner and pro-active advisor/expert in the field of Facility Services for the Management Team and other managers.
- You hierarchically lead the teams in Almere and Villena (Spain) and you are responsible for the people management.
- You are responsible for writing, implementing and evaluating multi annual maintenance plans for 23 buildings, two large terrains and all equipment (e.g. animal ambulances, forklifts etc.) and the facility related policies and service levels.
- You are responsible for writing, implementing and evaluating safety protocols and calamity plans for both locations in close collaboration with animal care departments.
- You ensure for compliance with relevant (future) regulations, related to all above.
- You draw up year plans (including budgets), derived from the multi annual maintenance plans and combined and aligned with needs of the functional users of buildings and report on the progress in quarterly (financial) evaluations.
- You are responsible for defining and managing larger projects (e.g. renovation, building, energy transition).
- You are responsible for the contracting and management of external suppliers and other relevant stakeholder management.
- You report directly to the Executive Director.
What do you bring?
- Proven ability to work at least on EQF 6-7 level (college) in Facility Services.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position within an international organization.
- Methodical and result-oriented work.
- Project management skills.
- Willingness to travel (paying visits to our location in Spain).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both Dutch and English. Spanish is a pre.
- Good self-reflection and a healthy dose of humor.
What do we offer?
- An inspiring workplace in the green heart of Almere, within easy reach of Amsterdam and Utrecht and with the possibility to work partly from home.
- Work within ear shot of the animals that AAP rescues.
- A position with social relevance in an international working environment.
- A professional work place that stimulates and supports dedication, accessibility and vigorousness.
- A permanent contract (after 2 twelve month contracts) in the case of mutual satisfaction.
- Your salary will be between €4,134 and €5,531 gross per month (based on 40 hours per week) dependent on relevant work experience, with room for growth within the function.
- In addition to the 8% holiday allowance, an education budget of 1,5% of your annual income.
- 24 vacation days per year on a full time basis.
- A sustainable pension arrangement.
Why work for AAP?
At AAP, an ideal is given shape in a professional manner: improving the welfare of abused or discarded exotic mammals throughout Europe. They take care of monkeys, lions, tigers and other exotic species in need and advocate for better laws throughout Europe. This is how we combat animal suffering.
AAP has two reception locations: one in Almere (the Netherlands) and one in Villena (Spain). The animals in the shelter come from different backgrounds: they have been victims of the illegal trade, exploited in the entertainment industry or kept as pets while they are not suitable for it. With a professional team, AAP helps the animals get back on their feet as best they can. As soon as they have recovered, they will look for a nice place for them at one of our rehoming partners, such as a reserve or zoo.
Almere employs 95 people and employs more than 200 volunteers. They work at a spacious and modern location, surrounded by greenery near Almere. The office and facility center are on the same site where they take care of the animals; nowhere can you see the result of your work as directly as at AAP on a daily basis. Villena, the branch in Spain, employs about 24 paid employees and 16 volunteers. Be sure to check out the website www.aap.eu and follow AAP's stories on social media!
